The annual river Wye trip 2016

On Friday Tom, Hilary, Chris, Tim, Cath and Rob made their way to Preston campsite to start our River Wye Trip.  Tents were pitched and the feasting began. We had a simple barbecue sheltering under the awning tied to Rob’s van.

The next morning we were met by Brian, Mike, John, Melinda and Georgina.  We then drove up to Hay-on-Wye to launch. The river level was quite low but not bad enough to scrape the bottom.  A relatively uneventful paddle apart from Rob testing his dry suit as we came through the falls. For this of you unfamiliar with this stretch of river, ‘the falls’ is something of a misnomer. Basically, the river speeds up a bit as it passes over a slab of rock.

Soaking wet paddler

After collecting the cars from Hay, we  dined at the Red Lion in Bredwardine. Highly recommended for their food.  Back to the campsite for another night under canvas although someone cheated and went to stay at Mum and Dad’s!

On Sunday morning, we woke in the dry but those of us in single skin tents were soaked due to the heavy mist during the night.  All the cars were then taken down to Hereford Rowing club. Launching at Preston was relieved by Rob testing his dry suit again.  See the image carousel below.
