The Summer Programme

The clocks have gone forward and the sun is starting to shine so I have started to publish a summer program to help people plan a little futher. If I have missed anything or people would like to add more please email over details. Possible ideas for trips could include, Nottingham, Tryweryn, Surfing, Surfing Weekend, Wye Valley. These would take a little bit of organising so put you name forward and lets get out canoeing this summer.

The Summer Program is here

The AGM

This years AGM will be Tuesday 27th February at The White Hart, Maisemore, time 7.30pm. Can we please try and start something close to this, not something approaching 8 o'clock? To discuss including the following.....

  1. Review of year and accounts
  2. Election of committee - 8 positions available - always keen to have new blood - please speak to Steve, Mike myself or email if you are interested.
  3. Clubhouse security issues.
  4. Membership fees and spending money (or not)
  5. What do you want or expect out of the club?
  6. Anything else - please give any other agenda items to Mike

Please note also there will be refreshments provided at the end, something like sandwiches and chips, so don't pig out at home first.

The Shed

You may or may not know that Gloucester Canoe Club has had break-ins to the the shed which house's the club kit. To date there has been 2 break-ins and at present the only thing to have been taken is the battery that powers the internal light. At the moment the opinion of committee members is that the thieves are expecting to find farm machinery and tools, when they come across canoes and kayaks they must be very disappointed. At the present the cost to the club is to repair the damage and replace locks. If this is to carry on it could become very costly. The dilemma the club faces is if GCC makes the shed like fort knox do we then give the impression we are hiding something precious and any more brake-ins would be more costly, or do we carry on as they are and keep replacing the locks. Any suggestions to gloucestercanoeclub@yahoo.co.uk. At present GCC is recommending anyone who is storing kit at the shed to take it home until events settle down.

Severn Bore

A good turn out for the September Bores. A big turn out from GCC many old faces dusted off the paddling kit and hit the water. At one point over the weekend you could mistake Maisemore for Newquay. Many of us had good rides on the bore and many had first including Ian Kersaw who managed to get to the bridge for the first time, but unfortunately his wife was unable to regions him. If any one has any good photos to add to the ones in he picture page send them to gloucestercanoeclub@yahoo.co.uk
